butterflyeffectI never really got into theoretical math, although I am drawn toward theoretical physics (string theory, quantum mechanics, and dark energy), because it just blows my mind – I would never have succeeded in pursuing this as a career path because… I just really don’t like math. But, we all have heard something about chaos theory and “the butterfly effect,” right?  Here’s an easy definition from “Fractal Foundation“:

The Butterfly Effect: This effect grants the power to cause a hurricane in China to a butterfly flapping its wings in New Mexico. It may take a very long time, but the connection is real. If the butterfly had not flapped its wings at just the right point in space/time, the hurricane would not have happened. A more rigorous way to express this is that small changes in the initial conditions lead to drastic changes in the results. Our lives are an ongoing demonstration of this principle.

As you can see, this “effect” contributes to weather patterns; Because of chaos theory, it is difficult to calculate the weather with perfect accuracy since meteorology is a chaotic system controlled by an infinite number of variables. Why am I even talking about this? Wind of course. I really wish that little butterfly would give it a rest for a while. It’s flapping its wings like crazy, making it rain in California (common! Miracle March is loooong past) and whenever it rains at my folks’, we get horrible winds over hear. Talked to mom and dad this morning and they asked “windy much? because we have got crazy rain here.”  The answer is, “yes!” For the next several days we have wind on the docket. We’re not even supposed to be getting any precipitation out of it; however, we did have a bit of rain this afternoon (for, like, 20 minutes) and NOAA weather station is saying we have about a 52% chance of rain.

Despite the yucky weather we’re having right now, Saturday was a GREAT day for moving the RCW.  We had difficulty stabilizing it fore and aft because of the slope and the jack stands we are using weren’t very cooperative. We started at 6:30 and weren’t done until 9:30! That is the longest it has ever taking us to get things put aright. While we were moving the electric fencing, we found a break in the bottom line that helps carry the current; we had noticed a significant drop in the shock value – so now we just need a reasonably calm morning to fix it.

We also had a family visit us on Saturday afternoon. Of course we didn’t take any photos. We were visited by Renada (whose name I’ve probably misspelled ) and Charlotte – along with their mom, Jennifer, and their grandparents Carl and Carol. They are moving to Flagstaff and needed to find a good home for their hens. We invited the girls out to see the operation and learn how we take care of our chickens. I think they enjoyed their visit and I hope we get to see them again very soon.

Sunday is our Sabbath, but I did end up taking eggs to Tom the Baker in Bisbee – because I didn’t get to do that since we had visitors on Saturday. Today – Monday – we ended up adding a straw bale to the Banty’s in the Pond enclosure because one of those that was providing wind protection, just fell apart completely this morning.  Sue pulled weeds for a while once I left for work. Other than that, it was too yucky of a day to do much. This weather gives both of us the body aches. We’re hoping it passes very soon! Because the Thank you easterwind is supposed to last several more days, I’m not sure what the week will hold (that seems to be a pattern lately). However it turns out, we’ll share it with you.
