It’s ok. It’s just one word. Workaround. Seems to be a word in everyone’s life as of late. Yes? It’s a good thing that we’re flexible (scoff), I mean as a people in general. Most of us, when hit with continued problems brought on by – say – a nasty pandemic, have been able to find ways to work around the issues and continue doing what we need to. We do snacks around here really quite well. Snacks for us, snacks for goats, snacks for chickens. Snacks are always a good thing! Chickens eat many things that may surprise you. They are really little omnivores. Our chickens are not “vegetarian” – which I think is ridiculous anyway. Do you wonder what vegetarian chickens eat for protein? I do. We’ve been experiencing heavy winds again, of late. After Tuesday’s great weather day, we’ve been rather warm, with scirocco type winds. Technically Scirocco’s come over the Mediterranean into Europe, but most recently scirocco has been used to describe any hot oppressive wind. That’s what we’ve had lately. Continue reading

Just wanted to give you all a quick update. The meat birds received a reprieve thanks to the wind. Winds were high all night and are still as I write this at 4:23 on Saturday afternoon. We had a quick meeting in the morning and all agreed (especially the chickens) that we couldn’t really do this today. Tuesday we will look into taking over the dinky house and surrounding area to process everyone. We’ll still need to do the final cleaning here – because the dinky house is just not ready for that, and probably won’t be for a while. But if we can take care of most of the bird cleaning over there, inside, we’ll be so much better off than doing everything outside in the hot, drying wind. We don’t want to end up with chicken jerky!
I want to give a shout out to our friend Ryan R. and our friend Kayla J.-F. for being so sweet to offer to help. Ryan may still be able to help on Tuesday, we’ll just see how things go. I will be updating you along the way.

We made it! June. Now begins the season of Monsoon and hot days and chicken processing, among other things. Plus, there are so many things to catch you up on!
