The rain has come. It began as a mist coming over the mountains, then seemed to pick up in intensity during the morning hours; it has remained with us through out the day. There are long strings of minutes when it holds back, only to pour again as if making up for this lost time. I believe it has settled in and decided to stay the weekend. Monsoon season is over, now we must be into the fall rains. We always welcome the rain, but were hoping that it would have held off until tomorrow, or even just until later this evening, so that we could have had Tom come to help us right the RCW today. It’s Wednesday, and that means it’s the short blog day. Which is kinda good because there really hasn’t been much time to do a whole heck of a lot. We can update you a little bit on the general goings on.
2) Bob went back to the vet today and was given a gold star for his healing progress. We are definitely starting to see new growth around the open wound areas. The Dr. took out all the remaining stitches and told Sue just to snip and remove any others that she came across. This is all very good news. We’ve also started weaning him off the sedation pills by 1/2 a pill at a time. When we ran out for a day, he just started to get out of control so we thought we’d begin to back him off slowly so he can remember what it’s like to be normal again. He’ll go back to the vet in a month and we hope his healing will be so much more progressed that we can let him free of the cone and off the leash. Yea, Bob!
to feel secure – and I’m pretty sure it was simply some type of stresser that kept them from regrowing their feathers. We may never know. All’s well that ends well.
Today is our short post day, so I just wanted to give you an update on the DL. We have three sickos on the DL, if you count Bob. Let’s start there. Bob is slowly healing. Because his skin was so thin where he had his laceration, it wouldn’t hold stitches, so it is being treated as an open wound. He went to the vet last week and Sue was encouraged to keep on doing what she’s doing. He is still on some sedatives to help keep him calm, but he is sooo tired of having to stay still, and stay in the the house, and wear the cone of shame. It will continue to be slow going for a while, but I think it is starting to look less angry and weepy. Poor little dude. 
We’ve had a pretty busy few days. Well, except for Sunday which is our Sabbath; the day we reserve for all things churchy and for taking it easy to refresh our bodies as well as our souls. We had a jammed packed Saturday and a very busy Monday. Are you ready for the news? Then I’ll tack on some insect photos at the end. I’ll try to keep it coherent. 
Have you ever heard of the REALTOR® Designation, M.R.P.? It stands for Military Relocation Professional. Well – did you know that Sue and I have the C.R.P. Designation? Chicken Relocation Professional. And boy did we exercise that today! We began and ended the day relocating chickens, for various reasons. Whenever we’re in the midst of doing things like that, people drive by and wave, I always imagine that they’re saying – “What are they doing now?” I think we give our neighbors a great deal to talk about! 
Well, we don’t think you can ever have too many eggs – but sometimes we can have too many orders for eggs! Right now, Tom the Baker is ramping up for the holidays. He’s wanting to start back up with 10 dozen each week. 10 dozen! We were able to fulfill that order today, but we had to wait until Sunday evening in order to get that many. We didn’t sell any to anyone else all last week so that we could get to 10 dozen by today… and we just barely made it! After we took the 10% out, we had exactly 10 dozen. When I dropped them by this morning, I said, “Just let me know what you need later this week…” and he said, “10 dozen.” All I could say was that we’d do our best. We have orders in from regular private clients as well. We don’t want to forsake everyone to make sure Tom gets 10. Especially those that purchase from us because they have allergies or are dealing with cancer – so they’re trying to eat more cleanly. What’s a body to do? We’re coming up on that time when they are really going to slow down for the winter. We’ll just do the best we can! 
Who knew that there was such a thing as chicken drama? Well let me tell you, we’ve been playing chicken switch for several days now to try and help squelch the drama. This chicken here, these there, whose going to try to take over as head hen? It’s just been amazing. Up until now, our flocks have been relatively calm and basically trouble free. Well, ok – at the very beginning when we had way too many roosters in the original coop, there was some stress. Once we processed those guys, there was immediate calm in the flock. It was amazing. But, lately, whew – we’ve had some trouble. 
…the number three. We’ll add chickens any chance we get! Who doesn’t need more chickens? Just three more, please. Today we’re going to pick up three Easter-Eggers from a church friend who is moving to Georgia. His wife is getting transferred, so they are picking up and heading East. They are the family that gave us the four hens earlier this summer. Well pick them up soon and put them in with
It’s Wednesday, traditionally a short post. Let’s stick with tradition, then. After the crazy Monday, things have been rather quiet around here. As long as you don’t count the chicken escapee, who we just can’t catch, and the mower deck detaching itself from the tractor. Just normal days, really. Let’s catch up.
