Did you ever watch Sesame Street? I loved The Count. I hated math later on, but I like The Count. As an adult, when you watch these kids shows, funny questions always creep up on you. Like, how hard was it for The Count to work in a base 10 numbering system, when he only had 8 fingers. Did he have to re-learn all his mathematics? I was half remembering the pose in this photo for the number 5, but that wouldn’t work – would it? Well, be that as it may – The Count, here, is our mascot for today because we are going to tally some things around here. The magic number is 7. Ready? Continue reading

I think sometimes Sue wonders why it takes so long for me to write these little blog posts. I think that, much of the time is spent looking for my initial photo or image. The other major part is spent researching things like, definitions; snake/insect/bird identifications; chicken diseases; and the like. Another contributing factor is that I often write while we’re watching a movie – so sometimes my attention is diverted. Today, for the initial image that goes with the title, I finally decided to steal my cousin Callie’s photo of her latest flower creation… it seemed to bring about the “slow Saturday” sort of vibe. (Thanks, Callie!) You can check out her creations at
Are there halcyon days of summer? Well, technically, no. And I suppose it really applies to the weather; currently our weather days are certainly not halcyon. However, as an idiom, I’d say that it refers to days of calm. Mostly with a nostalgic bent, which we don’t really have either, if I’m referring to this past week. I don’t know… maybe this is all too full of contradictions.
I am just so confused! I’m having a difficult time adhering to the schedule that I set up for myself. Saturdays just don’t feel like days I should be blogging. Eventually we’ll get into the new habit. This week feels weird anyway, ended up working in Bisbee four days this week and so now today feels like Wednesday – yesterday felt like Tuesday – and now I’m going to have a Groundhog day feeling all day tomorrow! Craziness!
We have been waiting for weeks and weeks! Yes, we’ve had smatterings of rain here and there, but not the all out downpour that we’re used to getting on a regular basis during Monsoon. Last night, we finally had our first downpour on the property. Not sure when it started, but by the time I arrived home around 5:30 it was in full swing and it may have been going for a bit of time. Lasted about an hour I’d guess. Stopped raining for a couple of hours and then started again around 9pm. Always nice to lie in bed and listen to the rain.
Do you remember this artist? Her career really took off in the 1970’s. She did illustrations for Hallmark, Current, The Leanin’ Tree, Ranger Rick, and many others. I remember her paintings mostly from the greeting cards – which I loved. Many of her more popular drawings anthropomorphized woodland creatures in everyday activities. Like the one I’ve included here from her authorized information
… is a magic number. At least that’s what I’m hoping, hoping, hoping. They say that things come in threes and, again – I’m hoping that is true. Can anyone guess what we might have had come again to make three? Let’s see…
Sometimes it just never stops! Ever have those days, when you think you’ve taken care of an issue and it just keeps cropping back up. It might not look exactly the same, but – in essence – same issue. We had some of that today. Then we had a little bit of a new take on the issue. AND we had a pretty silly thing happen. I’ve gotten a pretty late start, so this will be a really quick post.
You know, there is a day for everything! I did not know there was a “World Snake Day”. It happens to fall on July 16th. How do I know this? As I usually do, I was googling images to go with today’s title (which we’ll get to in a mo) and found many images for “snake day”. I wonder when World Hippopotamus Day is – wait, I’ll google that – February 15th is World Hippo Day. Put that in your calendar right now so you won’t overlook it next year. Why are we calling today “snake day” even though we’re a week early? Keep reading to find out.
It’s been an entire week since I’ve written. What happened? Just stuff. This week seems to have been so incredibly busy. We were running here and there, getting home late, getting up early – going to bed early. Just being busy bees. We did manage to get some things done this week, amidst all the chaos.
