As the days grow shorter and the egg production begins to decline, people have been asking, “Well, what else is there for you to do?” I think I say this a great deal in the blog – or I used to; there is never an end to what needs to be done on the farm. Just taking a quick minute to let you know that we’re only doing a short post tonight because we hope to be able to report on the righting of the RCW tomorrow. If the weather can hold after the morning, Tom will be here to help us out. I’ll be in Scottsdale most of the day, so I won’t be able to be part of the excitement- but hopefully everything will go well. For now, we’ll just leave you with the weekend egg report and call it ok.

Today’s weather: Started off as a beautiful morning. Mostly clear and warming. Then clouds came over around 1:30 And we started experiencing scattered showers and some thunder. High today was 70. Currently, at 6:37 p.m., it is 53. We are expecting an overnight low of around 43. Rain off and on tonight until around 6 a.m.

Egg report: Saturday- zero goose, 0 duck, 23chicken. Sunday- zero goose, 1 duck, 9 chicken. Monday- zero goose, zero duck, 11 chicken.

“…my arm is complete again!”  That’s a nod to Sweeny Todd, I use it for my friend John S. who enjoys quoting that line when he pulls out the carving knife, but also because it kind of describes how Sue feels to have the tractor back in it’s comfy spot in the garage. That’s Sweeny, to the right, I thought about superimposing a photo of the backhoe to his arm so that my reference might make more sense; then I decided that I’m probably one of two people that is going to get that anyway – so, meh. What the Trails West Tractors guy discovered was that a transmission seals was completely disintegrated and that was causing havoc in many systems, plus making a horrible noise.  Luckily, it was still under warranty!!! So, Sue just had to pay some labor and cost for fluid, diesel for George’s truck that hauled it back and forth.  It was so much better than we had feared! While the tractor was off getting checked out, we were using wheel barrows to move large quantities of wood chip compost, and it got old quickly. We’re now ready to get back to the regularly scheduled plantings that we need to finish. Monday is a holiday, so we might get quite a bit done now.  Continue reading →

It’s a wild Friday night for someone, somewhere, I’m sure. Here – everyone’s a bed, but us. Sue’s catching up on the vlogs that she likes to follow and I’m taxing my brain with trying to come up with some type of cohesive thoughts for tonight’s blog. That brain thing just hasn’t been working lately. Suffice it to say, we’re not into wild Fridays around here. We’re not into wild weeks, or weekends either… just give me calm, quite, peaceful days and I’m happy. Thursday and Friday seemed to fall into those areas I guess. Continue reading →

Monday I said that I was going to be gone; I’m in Phoenix at a workshop with the Arizona Association of REALTORS®, so I was holding back on what happened over the weekend. I’m sure you’re all wondering how it all went. Well, even if you’re not, I’m going to tell you anyway! We learned some things, we remembered some things, and we decided that we’d make some changes before we processed the RR#2’s. It was a really long day and we were just both so happy when everything was done and over. I won’t get into the nitty gritty of everything because we’ve already done that once and you can look it up on earlier posts if you want.
